Today seemed like a good day to make some jam …. I’ve been wanting to make cookies lately and have been craving frosted sugar cookies but as we are out of powdered sugar and we live about 20 minutes out of town I decided to make something with the ingredients we did have.  And one thing I have a lot of is jam….Riley and I made jars and jars of marionberry, 4 fruit and nectarine jam and tons of grape jelly so jam thumbprint cookies seemed like a good choice.   They turned out really well and as I only made a single batch they shouldn’t be around too long to tempt me…..

 Today has been a lovely sunny day and I drove down to pick one of my daughters up from college for the weekend and was treated to the sights of rural Oregon:   Green fields, sheep and cows grazing and even new lambs…..lovely!  

Looking forward to a weekend filled with some baking, knitting, Australian Open finals, maybe a movie and Downton Abbey ( I’m hooked!).  If we can keep the idiot dogs off the counter and the cats from getting inTo trouble it should all be good!

 You knew there’d be knitting….and of course, lots of fair isle.  And, more specifically, lots of fair isle fingerless mitts.  Because I can’t stop playing with colors.  Or buying more yarn…..

I’m finally sitting here pecking away on my iPad by the fire and it’s only 2 pm.   You might think its early for retiring for the day and normally I would agree with you.   However my morning was filled with the kind of fun I could do without and I’m just mentally wiped.   I went to take my son to school this morning and before I left the house I made sure the house was “Labrador proof”:   5 Laundry baskets covering the couch so that they can’t get up on it, towels on the things they are allowed to lay on, doors to bedrooms shut, dog door open, and, the crowning piece,  the 392 song classical music playlist set to repeat on the iPod dock.   And I was only going to be gone 40 minutes.   Spoiled Labs you might say.   Apparently not spoiled enough……because I came home to two bags of pretzels ripped open and strewn about the dining room ( I guess they don’t like pretzels but had to try both bags to make sure) , a whole unopened box of Nilla wafers completely eaten ( not even any crumbs!), and a box of granola bars devoured.   It was crate time for the naughties while I got busy clogging the vacuum with the pretzels ( my husband will probably throttle me later).   After cleaning up the feast I looked out on the porch and noticed one of our cats was not putting weight on one of her paws so I got her into a cat carrier and 30 minutes later was back in town at the vets.  Cat is fine now with big shots of antibiotics in her and the end to my lovely morning was that I still had to get my ass out to the elliptical and workout.

So yes, knitting and blogging and napping by the fire is called for…..

And maybe a big drink……

 No we don’t have snow today and most recently we were faced with flooding in our area but we did start last week off with some snow and I managed to snap off some shots of those glorious snowflakes.  I much prefer the snow to floods!

It’s early in the morning and just about time to start preparing for work and hopefully the day will fly by and I’ll be home knitting.  I do find that my iPad has cut into my knitting time by making the wonderful world of the Internet with Flickr, blogs and news sites soooooo accessible.  Hard to put that thing down once I get started……

 My new blog begins with a corner of my home.  It’s a good place to start because this blog will be about the story that is me:  knitting, photography, thoughts. One good yarn.  A good story.  A good knit.
